Have Manchester City already won the title?
With the January transfer window coming to a close, Manchester City find themselves in a commanding position to clinch the Premier League title as they hold a 15 point lead over second placed and their city rivals Manchester United. As many fans would say Manchester City have already won the title, however if it is mathematically possible, it is possible. There are many fixtures yet to be played and City might find themselves getting complacent at times. This is something City manager Pep Guardiola needs to address heading into the last 4 months of the season. As the knockout stages of the Champions League is also at hand, Pep will have to keep his players fresh and not disrupt the flow and chemistry of team which has been such a threat to other teams.
After their first loss in the league away at Anfield, doubts were raised that City could now falter. This would give Manchester United and Chelsea to cut some gap with them, however City responded strongly winning 3-1 against struggling Newcastle United. There are some key games left for City still. City are yet to face Arsenal (Away), Chelsea (Home), Manchester United (Home) and Tottenham Hotspurs (Away). These can be title defining matches for Manchester City and City boss hopes that his side can do well against these teams and in the remaining fixtures.
League Cup finalists
Manchester City has also reached the finals of English League cup beating Bristol City 4-2 on aggregate. City won the first leg 2-1 with goals from Sergio Kun Aguero and Kevin De Bryune. Bristol City gave them a tough match and it was hard fought in the end. The second leg was no easy task for Guardiola’s team as well despite taking a 2-0 lead in the first 30 minutes. Bristol City fought back and got one back before Raheem Sterling scored to give City a 2 goal cushion. The final minute of the stoppage time saw Bristol scoring one more which happen to only be a consolation goal. City face Arsenal in the final on 26th of February.
City have relatively easier opponent in their knockout stages compared to rivals Chelsea and Tottenham. This could be helpful for City boss as Chelsea would have to rest some key players for clashes against Barcelona. City have enough firepower in their ranks and arrival for Laporte bring further strength at the back. The race for the Premier League title is not fully over yet however City are at a strong stage and it is less likely that they shall throw this away. City are the highest scores in the league with 62 goals and the third most solid team defensively.
